The US left their Round of 16 match with Ghana disappointed. Ending in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time, the match went into thirty minutes of overtime where Ghana put one in the back of the net and clenched a spot in the 2010 World Cup Quarter Finals. This is the second time that Ghana has eliminated the US from the World Cup. Unlike all of their previous matches, the US was not able to make a comeback from behind. This was the first time that the US made it to elimination round, but this is somewhat surprising due to the amount of goals that they let in and the few goals that they scored. AN American forward has not scored in the World Cup since 2002. Ghana will be facing off against Uruguay for a spot in the Semi Finals. Ghana is the only African team remaining in the tournament.
Kevin-Prince Boateng put Ghana in the lead five minutes into the match and almost an hour later the US tied up the game after drawing a foul and scoring a penalty kick. The game statistics would show that the US dominated the game, outnumbering Ghana in shots, corner kicks, and possession time. Ghanaian Midfielder Andre Ayew was named Man of the Match.
