Germany Defeats Rival England

by Caroline on June 28, 2010

Germany and England faced off in the Round of 16 elimination match of the 2010 World Cup. Showing no mercy on England, Germany finished the match victorious with a score of 4-1. Germany will be advancing to the Quarter Finals where they will be up against the much vaunted Argentina who defeated Mexico 3-1 to clench their spot in the Quarter Finals. Germany knocked Argentina out of the 2006 World Cup in the Quarter Finals so Argentina will be out for revenge.
With Germany leading by two goals, England’s Matt Upson was able to put one away at the thirty seventh minute and bring hope to England, but Germany’s Thomas Mueller put the knife in England by finishing two consecutive goals thirty minutes later. England outshot Germany 19-17, had two more corner kicks, and had slightly more possession than Germany. While England gave spent a lot of time in Germany’s half, Germany found England’s weakness via quick counter attacks. England and Germany have had a long World Cup rivalry and Germany once again proved to be on top. Germany was predicted to win and it was no surprise that they did, especially after England had announced that they had chosen out their penalty kickers before the match- as if they had planned on holding out for a draw.
