Argentina Crushes Mexico for Quarter Finals Spot

by Caroline on June 28, 2010

The favored Argentina beat Mexico 3-1 to advance on to the 2010 World Cup Quarter Finals. Argentina will be going up against another favorite in the Quarter Finals, Germany. In the 2006 World Cup Germany knocked Argentina out of the tournament; this will be a revenge match for Argentina.
Argentina entered the match with four straight wins, while Mexico entered with a win, two losses, and a draw. Argentina held out Mexico until the seventy first minute of the game when Javier Hernandez found the back of the net and put Mexico on the board. For Argentina, Gonzalo Higuain had one goal and Carlos Tevez put away two goals, Tevez was also named Man of the Match. Lionel Messi, arguably the top player in the world, has yet to put any numbers on the board for Argentina, but has set his teammates up over and over again which has allowed for Argentina’s success. Mexico out shot Argentina by five goals, received fifteen more fouls, and three more corner kicks, but was not able to gain possession over Argentina. Mexico is a very young team and full of potential, many predict that Mexico will be able to pose a more serious threat to top teams in the 2014 World Cup.
